Many appraisers are running small, 1-2 person, shops.  Some appraisers want to grow their businesses again.  Craig is an example of an appraiser who has done just that.

Don:

I admire the way Canada does its licensing. I think we could learn a few things from our friends to the north.

Great listen as always. Up here in Alberta Canada, most lenders will allow a candidate to inspect properties up to $1 million in value, making it easier for people to enter the business.

My appraiser association, CNAREA, which is a first cousin to NAIFA there, doesn't have the university degree requirement to eventually secure the full designation - although there are many coming with a degree anyways.

My first candidate, who's now out inspecting and appraising on her own, this is her fourth or fifth career. She would have never been able to get into this line of work with the university degree requirement. The profession would have also been missing out on someone with a lot of life experience.
